Save The Internet
So there I was, watching an episode of Ask A Ninja and it was going on about Net Neutrality. I looked into this a bit more when I saw the same thing on Sluggy Freelance.
Here it is in basic… in America, several phone and cable companies are moving to have the rights to limit access to the Internet. This means that if you get your internet though these companies, you will only be able to view sites that have paid them money. Obviously, this is causing a lot of concern for the average American internet user and in some cases has already had an effect. One of the cable companies has restricted access to a private ‘Classifieds’ website (they say it’s a security bug that hasn’t been fixed after four months) and yet they run their own ‘Classifieds’ site that works fine.
I’ll leave the Save The Internet stuff to others, even though I view a lot of US sites I doubt it’ll effect us much. Here’s my point…
The STI people sent in a petition to the American Senate with over a million signatures on it. Will it do any good? On the one hand, you have millions of single people who are the public, on the other you have single companies with millions of dollars invested in private. Who will the Senate listen to?
I watch with interest…
