Deathcab For Cutie
So theres this new band Niall has been raving about on here and in the real world, so I thought I’d give it a listen. I’ve been listening to them all weekend as background music to my usual activities and I’m not sick of them yet so I guess they must be doing something right. He says I should listen to the lyrics, but I haven’t time for that yet. They have a very chilled vibe and remind me in places of Elbow or The Doves, and some of their songs seem to have a heavy scent of Placebo. The vocalist sounds a bit like Damien Rice. I have them on shuffle so I can’t tell if thats all one album or just a sporadic theme.
My only concern is that they won’t be very exciting to see live, their most upbeat song is a cover of “The Smiths“, does that not say something? I’ll will however go along to be proved wrong on that when they tour.
Favourite track so far: “Flustered / Hey Tomcat!” from “You Can Play These Song’s With Chords”

DCFC are indeed awesome. The overall flavour of the album I have (’Plans’) is very reflective and calm, with a pinch of regret and garnished with sincerity. Chris says he missed the lyrics, which I feel to be amongst the strongest aspect of DCFC.
If you find yourself in a position to listen to some, I really, really suggest you do. They are fast finding themselves right at the top of my favourites.
